As we age, loss of the underlying fat pads in the face, along with the change in the shape of the bones and loss of collagen as well as gravity results in a hollow, gaunt appearance to the face. With this loss in volume, nasolabial folds next to our mouth become more prominent, and in some people, the area under the eyes can also appear darker and more baggy, adding to an aged appearance.
Much of this can be corrected initially by treating the loss of volume in the cheeks, as shown below.
Generally, a ml of filler is needed in each cheek for starters, and more be required on review at 3-4 weeks, depending on age, and degree of hollowing/ volume loss.
Premium brand cheek fillers may last up to a year, and longer in some cases. As with each patient, individual results may vary.
